I own a Launch X-431 V+ 7.00.014 Auto Bluetooth diagnostic scanner with the additional modules: X-PROG 3 IMMO programmer, TSGUN tire pressure sensors, BST 360 battery tester, and the VSP 600 videoscope – I'm very satisfied with the wide range of applications this tool offers me.
So far, I haven't even begun to look into newer, possibly better devices.
In this regard, I will only refer to Launch devices, and anyone who decides to purchase diagnostic technology from Launch will be spoiled for choice. The model range is very extensive, and there is something for every user.
You really have to read the advertisements carefully and take a close look at the many different equipment variants on offer.
The differences are usually found in the various hardware versions - larger/smaller display, battery, processor, storage capacity, etc.
Different casing versions can be found at the parent company LAUNCH Tech Co. Ltd. in China and LAUNCH Europe GmbH, the specialist for automotive workshop equipment based in Kerpen near Cologne.
All devices, however, have one thing in common - the software!
Software versions, as of the date of purchase, vary from device to device depending on the equipment, and increase in functionality over time with the numerous updates.
There are also countless offers online with various expansion/supplementary modules already included in the package - e.g. HD 3 and SmartLink C 2.0; are expansion modules for truck diagnostics.
The X-PROG 3 key and immobilizer programming device is a powerful anti-theft solution and an ideal choice for professional workshops and vehicle maintenance shops.
The X-PROG 3 is an integrated multifunctional module that offers multiple functions in one device for fast and accurate data reading and writing. With powerful features that support reading/writing Mercedes-Benz infrared keys, reading BMW engine ISN codes, reading engines in BENCH mode, and more, relearning or cloning ECUs.
ADAS calibration for cameras and radars of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
TSGUN is an expansion module for working with TPMS (tire pressure sensor coding).
The BST 360 Bluetooth battery tester features advanced testing functions – even during cold starts. The
VSP 600 endoscope camera is IP67 rated, 5.5 mm thick, and has up to six brightness levels.
The TIT-201 is an infrared thermal imaging camera that measures surface temperature and displays live thermal images.
The PFP-150 is a professional 150-amp power supply unit, and its main function is to continuously supply power to the vehicle battery during all phases of ECU reprogramming and flashing, as required by automotive manufacturers.
The O2-1 Scopebox is a 4-channel oscilloscope that captures faulty/irregular signals for curve analysis. The S2-2 sensor box and the Wi-Fi printer
are specifically designed for diagnosing/simulating sensor errors. All modules are compatible with each other and can be purchased separately if needed. A distinction should also be made between the EU and global versions. 1. The EU and global versions support the same functions. 2. The EU version was specifically designed for European customers and only supports operation in the European region (including Russia and the United Kingdom). 3. The global version has no IP restrictions and can be used worldwide.
Those looking for a more advanced diagnostic tool that can perform handbrake resets, ABS settings, interval resets, etc. will find what they're looking for in the Launch X-431 PROS V 1.0, LAUNCH X431 PAD III, and X431 V+ models.
For professionals, the Launch X-431 PAD VII is recommended, offering everything even the most demanding users expect from a vehicle diagnostic tool. From routine service interval resetting to ECU coding, including brake and ABS settings resetting. As an added bonus, this diagnostic tool comes with a free annual update.
X-431 workshop tablets always receive an update package automatically, with no further contractual commitment. Updates can be purchased as needed, even if the current one hasn't been updated in a while – there are no limits to the packages, from inexpensive to expensive.
Diagnostic devices purchased up to 2021 always received a free two-year update. Diagnostic devices manufactured in 2022 only have a one-year update. You can order and purchase the update directly from an online shop or directly from the devices themselves.
With the software update, you will always be able to diagnose the latest vehicle models. Without the update, you can continue to use these diagnostic devices, but the device will no longer contain the latest vehicle models or new software extensions.
Automotive diagnostic devices with free lifetime updates: CR 319, CRP129X.
Automotive diagnostic devices with one year of free updates: X-431 pros V 1.0, LAUNCH X431 PAD III, CRP 909X, X431 PAD VII, X431 PROS MINI, X 431 V+.
The Launch X-431 pad III, X-431 pad VII, X-431 pros V 1.0 CZ and X 431 V+ 4.0 CZ are also supplied with all necessary connectors and reducers to diagnose older vehicle models that are not equipped with a classic OBD connector.
The Launch X-431 PROS V5.0 diagnostic tool is one of the most powerful tools from the Launch brand. It's a global version with no IP restrictions. It's an update version of the X-431 V V4.0. It features DBscar VII connectivity and supports CANFD and DOIP.
It's a new generation of 8-inch smart car diagnostic tools based on the Android 10.0 system. Its host hardware has been significantly upgraded, featuring industrial-grade protection and a long battery life. It features an efficient 2.0 GHz quad-core processor, 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, and a 6300 mAh battery.
It also supports access to FCA Group ECUs protected by the Security Gateway Module (SGW) without the need for a bypass—a subscription to the respective car manufacturer is required.
Launch is continuously working on additional security gateway certifications. Starting in November 2023, users of the Launch X-431 device series will have access to Mercedes-Benz.
This device supports the CAN-FD and DoIP communication protocols.
CAN-FD support is built in; however, an additional adapter must be purchased separately for DoIP.
The X-431 PRO3S+ diagnostic device dates from 2022, so it uses the latest technology, which is of course important and indispensable for newer vehicles.
Additionally, an update function is already available every two years.
Optimized high-end hardware configurations:
The screen diagonal of the X431PRO3S+ (10.1 inches (approx. 26 cm)) based on Android 9.0 is larger. One screen can display 15 data streams (graphics and text) that are easy to navigate.
The X431PRO 3S+ features 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band Wi-Fi, delivering four times the transmission speed of the previous version. It
features a rechargeable 7000mAh battery (up to 15 hours or more of battery life). It
also features 32GB and 128GB of expandable storage for storing more vehicle documents and customer data.
The CPU processor has been upgraded from 1.4GHz to 2.0GHz quad-core.
In summary:
All V5.0 tools are equipped with a DBScar VII Bluetooth port, which supports CAN FD and DolP protocols.
Pro3 V5.0 is the upgrade version of V+ V4.0. Pro3S+ V5.0 is the upgrade version of Pro3s+ v2.0. Now, the new Pro3 V5 and Pro3s+ V5 models have the same functions and are compatible with the same modules. There is only one major difference:
Pro V5.0 (V V5.0) only supports 12V vehicles. It is not compatible with the truck module. Topology mapping is not supported.
However, it has fewer supported modules than Pro3/Pro3s+.
The Pro3s+ and Pro5 have different VCIs. The Pro3s+ has a DBscar VII Bluetooth connection, while the Pro5 has the SmartBox VCI.
The SmartBox supports D-PDU/J2534/RP1210 and CAN FD DolP protocols for newer vehicles. They have the same diagnostic functionality. The Pro5 can perform Benz and BMW online programming, while the Pro3s+ cannot.
SmartBox 3.0 can also be used as a J2534 passthru for official brand software.
They all support X-PROG 3, TSGUN, BST-360, and VSP600, but use different high-performance modules; the Pro3s+ uses HDIII, while the Pro5 uses the licensed HD kit.
